Education

Every year the Edvard Grieg Museum Troldhaugen receives ca. 100,000 visitors.

Of these, about 10,000 are children and young people from Norwegian schools and kindergartens, some of them coming to educational concerts and visits.

We would like even more children to visit Troldhaugen and to learn about Grieg, both together with their school class and with their families.

Children are admitted to Troldhaugen free of charge, and have access to Grieg’s villa and a diverse outdoor area including, among other things, the grave and the composer’s hut. They also have access to the museum with its new permanent exhibition. In Edvard and Nina Grieg’s villa, children can gain a stimulating picture of how the two artists lived, and amongst the many interesting objects, they can see Grieg’s Steinway grand piano from 1892.

In the museum shop there are many articles especially designed for children. Materials for kindergartens and grade schools may be pre-ordered and purchased from the museum shop, and for adults, the shop offers both music and biographies.

Follow the Frog- in Japanese
Available in Norwegian and Japanese: Følg frosken! (Follow the Frog!) is a guide for children and parents who follow Edvard Grieg’s footsteps at Troldhaugen. It is designed for children between 4 and 9 years old, and may also be purchased for school classes in sets of 30.

Class sets
A class (in norwegian) set consists of 30 copies. At present we do not deliver class sets via the postal system; they must be picked up at Troldhaugen.

  • Følg frosken! (kindergarten through nine years) NOK 600 per class set
  • Din Grieg (primary school) NOK 500 per class set
