Exhibition of Gangjin Celadon Porcelain.

The 2009 European Road Show Exhibition of Gangjin Celadon Porcelain is on display in the Chinese exhibition in Permanenten from 19 of September to the 25 of September.

Korea has a long history of crafting ceramics. It is the development of glazes that brought about a landmark change in the development of ceramics. In Korea, the history of glazes, which began with celadon porcelain, dates back to the Goryeo period (918–1392). The most typical ceramic genre of the Goryeo period was celadon porcelain, hence the name Goryeo celadon porcelain.

Celadon porcelain has a slightly gray clay base covered with a transparent green-blue glaze, from which the term celadon porcelain derives. As glass-like glazes began to be applied, celadon porcelain developed further still in terms of its artistic beauty and practicality.

Compared to white porcelain wares with colourful designs, Goryeo celadon porcelain wares were crafted using an inlaying technique by which designs were carved and filled with clay of various colours.
