Hreinn Fridfinnsson (b.1943) is one of Iceland’s most important artists. This exhibition provides an overview of Fridfinnsson’s works throughout four decades. The exhibition opens Tuesday 20 May at 7 pm.
Hreinn Fridfinnsson has been a leading figure ever since the 1960s and has had great significance for younger generations of artists both in Iceland and elsewhere in Europe. Fridfinnsson can be described as a lyrical conceptualist and his art can be interpreted as poetic and philosophical examinations of nature and everyday life. His work encompasses photography and drawing as well as sculpture and installation art. One of his most discussed works is House Project from 1974; a house constructed with the inside out in the midst of an Icelandic landscape. Hreinn Fridfinnsson moved to Amsterdam in the early 1970s, where he lives and works. The exhibition provides an overview of Fridfinnsson’s works throughout four decades and is organised in collaboration with the Serpentine Gallery in London.
